SVS Vision Gives Free Eye Care to Detroit Students
June 21, 2010, Mt. Clemens, MI - SVS Vision Optical Centers partnered with Transitions Optical and VSP Vision Care to deliver free eyecare and eyeglasses to over 60 students in Detroit last week. Using a fully-stocked, mobile eye xam clinic provided by VSP, students received comprehensive eye exams by Dr. Ralph Gentile and Dr. William Harmon over a two day period.
The mobile clinic was also equiped with an on-site laboratory which allowed more than 40 students to receive their eyeglasses immediately. Students were selected with the help of Boys Hope Girls Hope Detroit and were seen at Detroit Cristo Rey High School and Holy Redeemer Grade School.
In addition to free eyecare and eyewear Bess the Book Bus, a mobile literacy unit, was also on-site and gave more than 200 books to the children who visited her. Bess shared her books and knowledge to reinforce the importance that healthy, quality eyesight has in developing good reading and learning skills.

“We’re excited about our efforts with these groups,” stated Robert G Farrell, Jr., O.D., “This allows us to service people who may not otherwise be able to receive the care they need.” The children and adults in these programs receive a comprehensive eye exam by a doctor of optometry and, if needed, are fit with prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses.
